Goal setting
Goal setting is a useful skill to learn and will help in achieving particular dreams or aspirations we all have. It helps to give a sense of direction and focus to our lives. It involves the following steps.
- Design Your Goals – Work out what your short and long term goals are
- Write down your goals in a positive way e.g. I will save £20 a month
- Be specific
- Give yourself a timescale for achieving your goals
- Write a plan – short term goals; steps to reach your goals; any support you might need and where from; set a date to review your progress and your goals
- Prepare for any barriers you may be faced with and how you can overcome them.
- Stick to your goals and surround yourself with positive and encouraging people
- Revise goals – as you progress you may need to change direction and revise your goals
If you have difficulty in achieving your goal check whether you are being realistic, or have set yourself enough time. To get what you want you need to be persistent and keep trying.
