Going to college is a major step in life and like any change can be stressful.
Of course it’s also an exciting time when you meet new people, make new friends and have new experiences. It might also mean getting away from home for the first time in your life.
Although you’ve now got the freedom to do exactly what you want, you still may feel homesick after a while. It may seem unlikely but after having to do stuff like your own laundry, and cook your own meals, you could start to miss your parents.
It’s also quite probable that you’ll start to miss all your old friends, or your girlfriend/boyfriend. Some students feel that they’ve picked the wrong course and can’t settle in. Money can be another major source of worry.
All these concerns are normal and usually pass with time. If they don’t and all the changes associated with going to college starts making you depressed you should get some kind of help. You can go to your GP, or student/young people’s counselling service.
